Perham has won 28 straight games and brings a record of 29-1 into the tournament.  Their opponent is Section 3AA champion Redwood Valley (16-11), returning to state for the fourth time since 2011 and first since 2015.  After losing their final two regular season games, the Cardinals won four consecutive games to earn a state tournament berth.

St. Peter (22-6) returns to the tournament for the sixth time and first since 2014.  The Saints won just seven games last season.  They will face top seed, Minnehaha Academy (26-2), the two-time defending Class AA champion.  They have won three crowns since 2013 and have won 20 straight games.  The Redhawks’ only two losses this season are to Hopkins, a participant in the Class AAAA field.  They will play the 6:00pm game at Target Center on Wednesday night.  The eight o’clock game features number four Melrose Area (26-4) against number five Lake City.  Melrose Area last made a state tournament trip in 2015 when it won the Class AA crown. The Dutchmen are on an 18 game winning streak. Lake City (26-2) is in the state tournament for the eighth time and first time since 2017.  They are a three-time Class A state champion and bring an eighteen game winning streak into the tournament.

The game preceding the Perham versus Redwood Valley game at 6:00pm at Williams Arena is number two seed Minneapolis North (21-9) against Esko (21-9).  Minneapolis North returns to the state tournament for the 22nd time in its rich traditions.  The Polars won back-to-back Class A crowns in 2016 and 2017.  Esko won the consolation final during the 2018 state tournament.
