Hornets Punch Their Ticket to the State Tournament

The Henning boys’ basketball team is headed to the Class A State Tournament for the first time since 1966.  The Hornets punched their ticket to state with a thrilling 60-58 come from behind victory over the Parkers Prairie Panthers on Friday night at UM-Morris.

Henning took their first lead of the game with under three minutes to play as they went on a 13-1 run, sparked by an aggressive pressure defense that led to many turnovers by the Panthers.  Parkers Prairie committed 21 turnovers in the game.

 

Sam Fisher led Henning with 24 points and 3 assists.  Isaac Fisher finished with 13 points and Blake Wallevand had 9 points, all in the second half, and a team high 4 assists.  Parker Fraki led the Hornets with 5 rebounds.

 

Travis Yohnke led Parkers Prairie with 21 points and 7 rebounds.  Andrew Warren and Alex Koep contributed 9 points each and Koep dished out a team leading 4 assists.  Preston Yohnke added 8 points for the Panthers.

 

The Panthers end the season with a record of 24-5.

 

Henning takes a 28-1 season record into the Class A State Tournament on Thursday at Williams Arena.  Their opponent and the time of their quarterfinal round contest will be determined this weekend.
