Fergus Falls trailed by nine points in the first half, trailed 30-26 at the half, rallied to tie the game at 48-48, forcing overtime, before falling to St. Cloud Apollo 58-54 in the Section 8AAA quarterfinals on Tuesday night.  The Otters end their season with a record of 15-12. The Eagles move on to face Bemidji on Saturday at 6:00pm in the 8AAA semifinals at Moorhead High School.

Matt Johnson kept the Otters in the game with his free throw shooting, making his first 16 foul shots and 16-of-18 overall.  He intentionally missed his final attempt in overtime, trying to put the Otters in position to secure an offensive rebound for an opportunity to score the tying basket.  That attempt failed when Johnson didn’t make contact with the rim, resulting in a dead ball and a possession for Apollo. Johnson led all scorers with 22 points, scoring all six of the overtime points for Fergus Falls.  Nic Pearson was also in double digits with 12 points and Dominic Aguilar finished with 9 points on the night. The Otters finished 19-for-31 from the free throw line as a team and made only one 3-point field goal in the game.

Michael Gravelle connected on five 3-pointers and led the Eagles with 21 points.  He was the lone Player in double figures for St. Cloud Apollo. Pouch Doubol had 8 points.  Apollo hit nine 3’s and made 7-of-14 free throws.

Three overtime turnovers hurt the Otters and helped the Eagles secure the win.
