The Underwood boys’ basketball team trailed 36-29 at halftime on Monday night, however, the Rockets came back strong scoring 31 second half points to 26 for Wheaton/Herman-Norcross and ending up with a 62-60 loss to the Warriors in a Section 6A play in game.

“Very fun game,” stated Wheaton Head Coach Jordon Roos.  “We were winning for most of the game, but every time I thought we might pull away Underwood made a run and stayed in the game. Made a few mistakes at the end with a turnover and missed free throw, however, we got a fast break chance with ten seconds to go, got to the FT line and made them both. We then forced a tough shot and got the win.”

Hunter Johnson (16 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists), Matt Thielen (21 points) and Nick Lupkes (12 points, 5 assists) led the Warriors, who shot 44% (21-48) from the field and 50% (12-24) on three-point attempts.  Thielen buried 6-of-10 from beyond the arc.

Underwood was led by Winston Heifort finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 assists.  Canaan Kugler with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.   Krosby Aasness scored 13 points and assisted on two baskets, and Daxton Olson scored 11 points and dished out 4 assists.  The Rockets won the rebounding battle, 28-24.  Underwood shot 46% (21-46) from the field.

“I am extremely proud of the way that we battled tonight,” commented Underwood Head Coach Evan Meece.  “The game was back and forth the whole time and we never gave up.  We came out with a game plan and executed it, but a couple rolls and bounces of the ball didn’t go our way in the end.  It was great to see the growth on the team throughout the season. We grew as a team and really worked together. I want to give a big thanks to my seniors and captains Daxton Olson and Nick Seiple.  Their leadership was huge throughout the season and they will both be greatly missed.”

Wheaton/Herman-Norcross moves on to face Parkers Prairie, the number one seed in the South half of Section 6A.  The two teams will play at 7:00pm Thursday in Parkers Prairie.
