Bright Scores 34 to Lead Lady Knights to Win Over Hancock

On Friday night the West Central Area Lady Knights hosted the Hancock Owls in the opening round of the Section 6A girls basketball tournament.  The Lady Knights came out ready to go and firing on all cylinders with a 25-4 run to start the game off. The Owls would fight until the end of the half and only give up a 4 point margin to trail 46-21. The second half began and the Lady Knights pushed the pace and the lead would slowly grow over the second half.  The final was 86-53.

The Lady Knights were led by Lexi Bright with 34 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, a block and an assist.  Ella Van Kempen contributed 17 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 9 blocks.  Morgan Woodle had 9 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.  Hailey Bennett scored 8 to go along with her 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.  Kennedy Ulrich had 6 points, 2 rebounds and an assist.  Brynn Fernholz and Kaitlyn Hansen each had 5 points.  Fernholz added an assist and 3 steals.  Elizabeth Rustan added 2 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, a block and an assist.  Kaylyn Ulrich had 2 rebounds and an assist.  Kaitlyn Sanstead had a rebound and a steal.  Teagan Nelson had an assist.


“Tonight we played hard and came out gunning,” said WCA Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer.  “It was fun to watch and great to see from the girls.  Hopefully we keep this moment riding when we meet up with Underwood on Saturday.”
