Otter Girls Move on to Section 8AAA Championship Game with Win over Bemidji

The Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team won for a fifth straight time on Saturday in Moorhead, defeating Bemidji by the score of 68-38 to advance to the Section 8AAA championship game against Alexandria on Thursday at 7:00pm at St. Cloud State University.

The Otters scored the first eleven points of the game, however, the Lumberjacks fought back to within two points by scoring the next nine.  The Otters took control from there as they built a 32-16 halftime lead and eventually increased the lead to 35 points, pushing the game to running time for a brief period of time with five minutes to play.

 

Ellie Colbeck had a huge game for the Otters, scoring 20 points, chasing down 11 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists.  Colbeck made three 3’s and hit 5-of-7 free throws. Lily Pearson was a perfect 8-for-8 on the foul line and had 14 points to go along with 5 rebounds.  Sabrina Fronning was also in double digits with 13.  Sam Evavold had 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals, and Tori Ratz added 6 points and 3 assists.  Fronning, Gretchen Davis and Paige Pearson all had 3 assists as the Otters distributed 19 team assists.  Fergus Falls held a 40-21 advantage on the boards and made 7-of-15 three-pointers.  They also went 19-of-25 from the free throw line.

 

Bemidji struggled with their outside shooting game as they hit only 4-of-18 three-point attempts in the game.  Junior Lindsey Hildenbrand led the Lumberjacks with 10 points.  Mackenzie Nicklason and Rumer Flatness added 9 and 8 points, respectively.
