The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Comets finished their regular season by winning their fourth game in their last five, recording a 62-59 victory over the Hancock Owls on Friday night in Hancock.

Hillcrest shot 48% (23-48) from the field and buried 73% (8-11) of their treys.  Nick Foss led the Comets with 18 points, making 7-of-11 shots and all four of his 3-pointers.  Sander Frustol recorded a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) and dished out 4 assists.  Thomas Zwiers (8 points, 4 rebounds), Gabriel Preston (7 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals) and Micah Foss (7 points, 3 assists, 3 steals) also contributed to the victory.

“We had a really solid win against a very good Owls team,” said Head Coach Gregg Preston of Hillcrest.  “The first half Nick Foss scored 12 and Sander Frustol added 11 and our team defense was exceptional.  We extended the lead to 50-35 midway through the second half and then Hancock hit 6 three-pointers and attacked the basket well to take a 59-57 lead with about a minute left.  Micah Foss drilled a big 3-point basket to give us a 60-59 lead. In the last minute, Gabriel Preston finished the scoring with 2 free throws as we pulled out a very entertaining 52-59 win.  Nick had a tremendous game defending, taking the ball aggressively to the basket and leading us in scoring. Sander was steady and solid like usual. Our intensity, focus, movement away from the ball and shot selection have slowly been developing this year.”

Hillcrest (13-10) will open post season play on Thursday night.
