Canes Take Early Lead, Hold on for 6-5 Win Over Mudcats

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes scored four times in the first inning and added a pair of fifth inning runs as they defeated the Moorhead Mudcats by the score of 6-5 on Wednesday night at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park.  The Canes collected 10 hits in the game and didn’t commit an error.  Winning pitcher Darin Stanislawski (8IP, 8K, 5BB, 8H, 5ER) helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.  Pete Gaustad (1IP, 1K, 0BB, 1H, 0R) earned the save.

Two Fergus Falls High School graduates are in the national spotlight in NCAA Division III Women's Hockey.

On Thursday, 1983 Fergus Falls High School graduate Joe Cranston, in his 25th season as the head women’s hockey coach at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, was named the NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey Coach of the Year.  On Sunday afternoon, Cranston’s Falcons defeated Elmira College 4-1 at Hunt Arena in River Falls to win the 2024 NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey National Championship.  The national title is the first in UWRF’s history during its 25th anniversary season, finishing with a  31-0 overall record, the most single season wins in NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey history and the fourth ever undefeated season.
