Lakers Place 1st at Uvaas Otter Invite

By Craig Olson 12/09/2023, 9:00pm CST

Detroit Lakes won the 2023 Uvaas Otter Boys Swimming and Diving Invitational on Saturday at the Kennedy Secondary School pool in Fergus Falls.  The Lakers had 521.5 points.  Fergus Falls was runner-up with 473.  Morris Area came in third with 211 and Thief River Falls was fourth with 149.5.

“Good day for the Otters,” said Head Coach Randy Hansen of the Otters. “You always hope to win your home events but I am happy with how we performed today. Matthew Tuel and Jaden Kwapinski won individual events.  Landon Votava had a very nice day with solid performances in the 200 and 500 free, along with a great 400 free relay split.  I thought all three of our relays were very good.  We learned a lot about ourselves and areas that we can improve on.”

The next meet for the Otters is Thursday at home against St. Cloud Tech.
