Otter 10U A Girls Go 0-1-1 Over the Wekend

By Amy Wedll - Fergus Falls, MN

The Fergus Falls 10U A Hockey team traveled to Fargo/Moorhead over the weekend, where they played two barnburners against two difficult teams.

Friday night, the girls took the late shift on the ice, facing off against Moorhead’s A squad. The first period started with a flurry of shots by the Spuds, but Otter goalie Olivia Jurgens was in the zone and turned away 11. In the second period, Moorhead found the back of the net just once with an unassisted goal from Payton Babolian. The Spuds occupied the penalty box 4 times to the Otters’ one, but both penalty kills went 100%. The Otter skaters fought hard and had a few great looks at the goal, but couldn’t quite close the deal and fell 1-0. Jurgens earned a total of 33 saves against a very talented Moorhead squad.

Saturday afternoon, the girls again hit the ice, this time on the North Dakota side of the border against the Fargo Freeze 10U A. The Freeze started the scoring in the first five minutes of the 1st period, but the Otters answered back with a goal from Aubree Nelson. Evelyn Wedll earned the assist. Nelson was at it again in the second period, this time assisting Rachel DeBrito who put Fergus in front by 1. Then, midway through the third, the Freeze got the game reset, tying it up 2-2. After an intense 5 minutes of overtime, both teams went to the locker rooms with a tie on the record books. Jurgens earned 30 saves in the match.

The 10U A Otters are sponsored by Prairie’s Edge Dental. They return to home ice this weekend, facing West Fargo Saturday afternoon.
