Battlers Open Season with Road Win in Barnesville

By Craig Olson - Barnesville, MN

The Battle Lake boys basketball team paid a visit to Barnesville on Tuesday night and left with a 62-54 win over the Trojans.  The Battlers led 28-25 at the half and then they won the second half 34-29.

"Both teams battled hard on both ends of the floor tonight," commented Battle Lake Head Coach Dan Peterka.  "We were able to get a few more baskets down the stretch and we shot our free throws (16-21) well.  We have a lot to work on moving forward, but I was proud of the way we played tonight."

Leaders for Battle Lake were Bennet Cameron (20 points, 6 rebounds), Nick VanErp (15 points) and Isaiah Dorn (12 points, 10 rebounds).

Barnesville was led by Charle Aakre with 18 points and 5 rebounds.  Adam Tonsfeldt had 11 points and dished out 8 asissts, and Brooks Martinson had 9 points, 6 boards and 4 steals.  Barnesville made 22-of-39 (56%) of their field goal attempts and 8-of-21 treys.

Battle Lake made 21-of-54 (39%) from the field and won the battle of the boards 31-24.

"This was a game of runs," said Barnesville Assistant Coach Tracy Hinsz.  "Battle Lake is very balanced, well coached and a fundamentally sound team.  Every time we got close they would answer with a run.  That went on throughout the game."

Barnesville will take their 0-1 record into their Friday night home contest against Hawley, while Battle Lake (1-0) will play host to Osakis on Thursday.
