The M State Men's basketball team jumped out to an 18-9 lead and led 41-31 at halftime Tuesday night as they recorded an 87-68 victory over the Concordia JV team.  The Spartans ended the game on a 32-17 run as they picked up their first win of the season.
M State hit 53% (33/62) of their field goal attempts compared to 46% (31/68) for Concordia.  The Cobbers were a poor 2-for-17 (12%) from beyond the arc and made only 4-of-9 free throws, while M State hit 50% (4/8) of their 3's and made 63% (17/27) of their foul shots.  M State also held a 41-34 edge on the boards.
"We had our most consistent effort and it was nice to see our players get rewarded after letting a lot of close games slip away," stated Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  "We played smarter and got higher percentage shots that came from having more patience at the offensive end.  John Bright (14-18FG, 32 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) was outstanding and did a great job attacking the basket.  Hopefully we can keep the momentum going this weekend."
Shane Bosek (15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists), Jason Nelson (14 points, 2 steals), Rapheal Cabannis (12 points, 5 assists) and John Clark (10 points, 2 steals) all contributed double figures.
The Concordia JV team was led by Aaron Zimmer with 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting.  Zimmer completed his double-double with 10 rebounds.  Daniel Wilde scored 14 points and Aaron Larkin added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Spartans play St. Cloud Tech in their next game at eight o'clock on Friday night in Fergus Falls.
