The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy football team kept things close for one half on Wednesday night as they hosted second ranked Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in Fergus Falls.  A 30 point second half carried C-G-B to a 44-12 victory over the Comets.

In the second quarter, Jason Montonye hauled in a 33 yard pass from Kade Karsky and Logan Nordly added a two point conversion run to put the score at 14-6 with 9:15 left in the half.  At the 4:55 mark, Gene Twedt caught a 17 yard pass from Hillcrest QB Dalton Tostenson and the halftime score was 14-12, C-G-B.

The Wolverines took control with a pair of late third quarter touchdowns as Maanum scored a 3-yard run and Nordly on a 6-yard run.  Nordly also scored on a two-point run.

The fourth quarter saw the Wolverines score when John Connelly returned a 48 yard fumble return for a score.  Nordly ran in the two point conversion giving the visitors a 36-12 lead.  Maanum's third TD of the game, a one yard run with 5:00 minutes left, concluded the scoring.

Hillcrest was held to just 64 yards rushing, however, they threw for 147 yards as Tostenson completed 15-of-26 passes.  C-G-B ran for 231 yards and had 264 yards of total offense.  Gene Twedt caught 7 passes for 86 yards and the leading rusher for the Comets was Theo Taylor running the ball 16 times for 42 yards.

"We ran into a very good team tonight," noted Hillcrest Head Coach Charlie Brue.  "We played well in the first half, but CGB was too much for us in the second half."
